Hector Yuyang Chen is a research-driven art advisor with professional experience across major museums, libraries, and cultural institutions in the United States. Trained as a provenance researcher and art historian, his work has focused on acquisition research, valuation context, collection documentation, and institutional standards for evaluating works of art.

Chen has held positions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and university galleries, where he worked across curatorial, library, and research departments. His experience includes supporting museum acquisition research, managing and documenting large-scale collections, conducting provenance and market research, and contributing to appraisal and valuation-related projects for institutional and academic contexts.

He holds an M.A. in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art and a B.A. in History with a minor in Art, and has overseen collections comprising thousands of works across a wide range of genres and media. His background combines institutional rigor with a practical understanding of how artworks circulate between museums, markets, and private collections.

Through Chan Art Advisory, Chen applies museum- and library-based research standards to independent advisory work, supporting collectors, estates, and institutions in making informed decisions grounded in documentation, context, and long-term perspective.
